Back to SWG bar

Chrome Extension Privacy Policy

This policy covers SWGBar Website Check, the Chrome extension, and its local Native Messaging bridge. Its single purpose is to display SWG TLS inspection evidence for the domain you visit, using existing observations from SWGBar on your Mac.

Information processed locally

The extension reads tab URLs in memory to identify the hostname and port and keep the toolbar status in sync with navigation. The local bridge receives only the hostname and port, never the URL path, query parameters, fragment, passwords, cookies, page contents or form entries.

The bridge reads SWGBar's existing local evidence database and storage key to return the matching domain's classification, target IP and port, network interface, connection method, request count, observation time, certificate name and trust results. The extension uses this information only to show the toolbar icon, tooltip and domain details. It does not write domain records, run certificate probes or change SWGBar settings.

Communication, storage and retention

Extension-to-SWGBar communication stays on the same Mac through Chrome Native Messaging. The extension and bridge do not upload browsing activity, observations, certificates or the storage key to SWGBar, Google or another remote service. There are no ads, analytics, tracking pixels or remote executable scripts in the extension.

Connection verification stores a process ID, random challenge, session ID, extension ID and version in local connection files. These contain no browsing history; the current connection status is removed when its bridge session closes. Domain observations remain in the SWGBar application's local database until the application clears them. Removing the extension does not delete the application's records. Use SWGBar's “Clear records and reprobe” control to clear business records and start new local observations.

Permissions

  • tabs: identify visited domains and update their toolbar status automatically.

  • nativeMessaging: query the SWGBar companion and verify the local connection.

  • alarms: refresh active-tab results and retry the local connection periodically.

The extension does not request website host access or inject scripts into pages. Copying a domain is performed only when you press its copy button.

Use and sharing

We do not sell or transfer extension user data to third parties, use it for advertising or unrelated purposes, or use it to assess creditworthiness. The use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Chrome and the Chrome Web Store separately manage extension installation and updates under Google's policies. Visiting swgbar.com is covered by the website privacy notice; installing the extension does not subscribe you to email updates.

Requirements and interpretation

The extension requires a compatible SWGBar macOS companion. Results are the companion's independent observations, not a verification of the current Chrome connection. An unavailable or unobserved domain has no detail popup. A “Public” result means no inspection evidence was found in the available observation; it is not a guarantee of connection safety.
